Happenings in El Desemboque and nearby areas

The latest news, images and upcoming events for El Desemboque, Puerto Lobos and other coastal areas.

On most days the coastal communities along the northern part of the Gulf of California are quiet and uneventful. However, there are several events throughout the year, both in El Desemboque and in nearby destinations like Puerto Lobos, which is just a few miles down the road.

The busiest weeks of the year are during the Easter/spring break holiday season known as Semana Santa (holy week), when thousands of Sonorans flock to the coastal beach destinations for a week of partying and relaxation.

The tourism agency for the municipality of Caborca sponsors several events on the beach of Puerto Lobos, with activities like sand sculpturing and snorkeling. And although most of the participants will speak only Spanish, do not be dissuaded from attending – they are fun events with great people, and you are welcome to participate.

There are also groups who come to Desemboque for group retreats and reunions. Every February the hotel hosts a gathering of Rotarians from the United States and Mexico who visit the municipality of Caborca to perform polio vaccinations. During their stay they enjoy a delicious meal of fresh grilled fish accompanied by traditional Mexican side dishes.
